Math Competitions

QSLMA sponsor’s various math events throughout the year.

For Elementary students, QSLMA and ALCDSB host the Gr 5/6 and Gr 7/8 Math Competitions.

For Grade 9/10 students, QSLMA and Bayridge Secondary School host the QSLMA Jr Math Competition every year in the spring.

For All High School Students, QSLMA and Kingston Math League host the Mathletes competitions held both in the Fall and the Spring.

If you would like QSLMA to sponsor a math event being held at your school. Please submit the QSLMA Sponsorship Form below. Sponsorship will be limited per member per school year in the amounts listed below.

The Sponsorship Committee represents a commitment on behalf of QSLMA and the chapter executive to support the growth of its members in mathematics knowledge and practice.

The Committee will meet these aims by:

• allocating up to $2500 per annum available to QSLMA available to QSLMA membership for mathematics competitions, student based activities or staff based activities.

QSLMA Sponsorship Funding Policy

Funding is available to sponsor QSLMA members in good standing during the fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30. In order to distribute funds as equitable as possible, the following guidelines will be followed:

Math Competition Funding

• A member may be sponsored up to $500 per fiscal year. 

• Monies may be used for medals, resources, hospitiality items.

• Funds cannot be used towards student registration fees, or other fees associated with sending teams, to math competitions, including but not limited to:

  • • • Waterloo Math Competition

      • International Baccalaureate exams

Student Based Activity Funding

• A member may be sponsored up to $200 per fiscal year. 

• Monies may be used to support family math night, etc.

Staff Focused Funding

• A member may be sponsored up to $250 per fiscal year.

• Monies may be used to support a Teacher Math Club, etc.

• Applications are considered on a first come first served basis.

• Funding application forms must be forwarded to the Chair of the Sponsorship Committee. 

• To receive funds, within 14 days of the event, members must include:

  • • • Completed and approved application forms (see below)

      • Proof of purchase of materials being covered

      • A written summary of the event QSLMA is sponsoring

      • Pictures of the event to be promoted on QSLMA social media

      • Include QSLMA in any promotial materials for the event

• Applications that are not accepted will be discussed at QSLMA executive meetings for further consideration if surplus sponsorship funds are available.

• Members must follow the procedure outlined by the school principal for attending and running competitions and events during the school day.

Remember - QSLMA cannot give members permission to attend or run competitions during school hours.
